SPECIAL REPORT: The Hunting

‘The Hunting’ is a four part series that follows the lives of four young Australians, their teachers and families, in the lead up, revelation and aftermath of an inappropriate teen photo scandal.

Research from the eSafety Commissioner reveals that young people are increasingly exploring their sexuality online, with 26% of teens having sent a nude or sexual image or video of themselves to someone else. This includes intimate, nude or sexual images that have often been altered (photoshopped), and then sent without the consent of those featured.

This series aims to promote discussion and awareness in an attempt to minimise harm and promote self-awareness and knowledge of healthy behaviours in young people, leading to positive experiences online.

Experts suggest that conversations about online safety should start in the home. This should occur as soon as a parent hands over any device to a child, and then be constantly reinforced throughout their educational journey.
